We also sell katana at our dojo. Many of our Samurai Training Activity participants have purchased Japanese Katana from us. They are all people living outside of Japan. This means that we were responsible for shipping the swords overseas. In this article, we will briefly explain how the procedure is carried out.

All katana in Japan come with a government-issued registration certificate. This certifies that the katana was made with traditional Japanese iron and manufacturing methods. However, this registration certificate will be discarded if the katana is shipped overseas. This is because the government must be notified before the sword can be shipped overseas. This prevents valuable national treasure level katana from accidentally leaving the country. This procedure is complicated and requires multiple photographs and documentation. Even if you apply as soon as you have everything you need, you may have to wait several months for the process. Government agencies do not work in such a hurry in any country. Therefore, if you live abroad, you cannot take your katana home in your luggage even if you bought it in Japan.
In most cases, EMS is used for shipping. Obviously, it varies from country to country, but expect it to take at least one month from shipping to arrival.
