Profile
Yushin-sensei | Dojo Headmaster
Yushin-sensei is the head of the Yushinkan Kyoto Dojo. He is the grandson of the founder of our Iai Ryuha style, "Yushin Ryu". Our style even takes its name from him. Yushin-sensei has trained in katana martial arts since 2002 (starting when he was 12 years old). Due to his high skills in "dual wield" or two-katana style techniques, he is called the “Modern-day Musashi.” He will be your instructor in our Yushinkan Samurai Training Activity.
Osayo | Dojo Manager
Osayo is a Yushin Ryu 4th Dan practitioner who has trained in katana martial arts since 2019. She is Yushinkan Kyoto's operations manager and joins in almost every training session that Yushin-sensei holds. She may be your assistant in our Yushinkan Samurai Training Activity.
About Our Ryuha Style
Kyoto Yushin | 京都勇進
Kyoto Yushin is a rare katana martial art “ryuha”, or style, that teaches three forms of katana swordsmanship: Iai (katana drawing), Kenjutsu (realistic battle training), and Tameshigiri (mat cutting). It is a two-katana style that trains the skills of the typical Uchi-katana, shorter Wakizashi, and dual-katana wielding. The left-hand drawing/sheathing of the katana and the Women’s Iai Kata are rare techniques that are unique to this ryuha.
