What You Train
Yushin-Ryu is a rare two-katana school — preserving techniques such as the left-hand draw and the women’s Iai kata found in few other traditions.
Bowing to the katana, drawing, sheathing, and the cut — the foundations of the sword, built correctly from the first lesson.
Work through the school’s Iai kata — roughly one hundred forms — at your own pace, with the master watching your progress.
Most schools train only the long katana. Here you also learn the shorter wakizashi and the rare two-sword (nito) technique of the Modern-day Musashi.
How It Works
Become a member to unlock the lessons, the weekly Zoom link, and the full video archive.
Join the live Zoom session every Friday, 22:00–23:00 JST, and train alongside students worldwide.
Yushin-sensei demonstrates, watches you practice, and answers your questions. Send a video of your form anytime for his feedback.
Every lesson is archived on Patreon. Miss a class or want to review — catch up whenever, wherever, as often as you like.
Why Train With Us
Your instructor is SETO Yushin-sensei himself — not a recording, not an assistant. Beginners are welcome: no prior katana experience is needed, and the full archive lets you catch up on everything past students have learned.
Members are also invited to our events in Japan — annual Dan rank examinations and training camps — where you can train with us in person and test your skill.
Frequently Asked
Yes. No previous experience is required — Yushin-sensei guides you on how to handle the katana whatever your level, and you can review every past lesson in the archive. Send him a video of your practice and he’ll give you feedback.
An iaitō (an unsharpened training katana — a Daishō set is ideal) or a bokutō with a sheath, plus training gear (Dōgi, Hakama, Obi). To begin, an iaitō and obi with comfortable clothing is enough. Tozandō is a recommended supplier.
Lessons are live every Friday, 22:00–23:00 Japan Standard Time (JST). Use a world clock such as timeanddate.com to convert it to your local time — and remember every session is archived if the timing doesn’t suit you.
Yes, that’s no problem at all. You can even join with your camera off if you’d prefer others not see you, and still send Yushin-sensei videos of your practice for his feedback.
